Construction will begin Monday on a roundabout on US-50/77 at Florence. It is scheduled for completion Sept. 29.

More than 500 voters narrowed a field of 13 candidates for four seats on Marion City Council. Top vote-getters Bill Holdeman, Gene Winkler, Stacey Collett, and Darvin Markley will face Jerry Kline, Jim Davis, Jim Crofoot, and Max Hayen in a general election April 4. Eliminated were Earl Mueller, Erik Billings, Roger Hannaford III, Melvin Honeyfield, and Roger Schwab.

Harms Plainview Ranch, operated by Mark and Kim Harms, has been nationally recognized by the American Angus Association for having 10 registered cows included in the association’s 2006 Pathfinder Report.

Jeremiah Lange was installed Sunday as pastor at Marion Presbyterian Church.

Two helicopters were called to Florence to assist in a futile search Wednesday afternoon for a fugitive who was chased from El Dorado to Marion County and another person who fled while being questioned at a parking lot in Florence.

Marion Middle School’s scholars team of Madison Chamberland, Patrick Hodson, Landon Leiker, E.J. Obermeyer, and Derek Stuchlik won first Feb. 21 at a league quad at Lyons.

St. Luke Living Center residents participated in a spelling bee Feb. 20. Words were easily spelled correctly for more than an hour. After a list of 250 words was exhausted, Lee Wigley and Ruth Kissel were declared winners. Minamae Bierman placed second, and Agnes Bina, third.
