More than a dozen Marion High School seniors camped out Thursday night in a grassy area next to the school gymnasium to be on time for graduation rehearsal Friday morning. Tents and cars provided sleeping areas.

Seniors included Jessica Bernhardt, Michael Brookens, Jessica Carlson, Clayton Garnica, Megan Hudson, Josh Kelsey, Allison Maddox, Randi McCarty, Jenna Parli, Paul Siefert, Brandon Watson, Emalee Versch, and Derek Vetter.

In this week’s issue are plans for celebrations in honor of the 50th wedding anniversaries of Gary and Shirley Carlson, Monty and Patsy Frazier, and Frank and Anna Mae Stika.

The Night Watchmen, a blues band from Wichita, will perform Saturday in Ramona City Park.

Chosen as athlete of the week, junior Travis Hett claimed Marion High School’s first-ever individual state golf championship Monday with a one-over-par 72 at the Class 3A state tournament in Hesston.

Shirley Gutsch of Burdick, second grade instructor at Centre Elementary School, is retiring after 45 years of teaching. The past 39 years were spent at Lost Springs.

Athena Study Club met May 16 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church to celebrate the close of the club’s 91st year.
