Peggy Blackman presided over her final session as mayor Monday afternoon and received the thanks and best wishes of fellow commissioners. Martin Tice, the only candidate on the ballot, was elected mayor Tuesday after receiving 86 votes from Marion residents.

Hundreds of youngsters flocked to Marion’s Central Park to search for 900 Easter eggs filled with money and candy Saturday morning. In fine weather, an unexpectedly large crowd turned out for the event, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.

Harlow Warneke hung up his mailbag Friday after delivering letters in Marion for 20 years. Warneke joined the U.S. Postal Service in 1966. Except for two years in Newton, he delivered mail on City Route 1 in Marion. Warneke, who with his wife, Edith, operates The Chief, a private club, will be devoting more time to his business, he said.

Diane Vantuyl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Vantuyl of Florence, is one of two winners in a recent energy contest sponsored by Flint Hills Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

Bob Gooding, owner of MAD Archers Pro Shop in Marion, is pictured handing Barry Allen a check for $150 for taking first place in a handicap target league. Other finishers were Ken Monroe, Rich Soyez, Carol Webster, John Webster, and Gene Winkler.
