Fred Moffitt, former postmaster at Tampa, was guest speaker Monday at Marion Kiwanis Club. He invited all Marionites to attend a bicentennial wagon train visit Thursday at Tampa.
A carpenter uncovered some historical information this week while working on renovation at Marion’s Stone School.
He uncovered the original blackboards in the building, dating back to 1873. Several years ago, old boards, made of thick black slate, were removed. At that time it was thought they were the original blackboards — but these are the originals, discovered under a layer of plaster. They are truly black board — boards painted black.
The popular musical “Sound of Music” will be presented in Marion twice next week in Marion Municipal Auditorium.
The highly acclaimed show will be presented by the music department of Marion High School, directed by Jeff Brewer.
The cast features Cheryl Robinson as Maria, David Colburn as Captain Von Trapp, Marsha Jackson as Elsa Schraeder, Brook Beaston as Max Detweiler, and Betsy Bowers as Mother Superior.
Florence, with a gain of 98, leads towns in the county in population increase. Peabody is next with 76.
Sherie Christensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Christensen of Marion and a senior at Fort Hays State College, has been named as one of five dietetic interns at Oklahoma State University.
