Marion’s street department is making plans to do a number of blocks of curb and guttering and blacktopping in the city. The blocks definitely signed and ready to go are two blocks of Coble St. from Weldon St. to Welch St., Nickerson St. from Coble St. to Freeborn St., and Lincoln St. from Hudson St. one block north.
Marion National Bank soon will give a “face lifting” to the exterior of its building at 3rd and Main Sts. Main feature will be a large revolving time and temperature clock. The front of the building will be turquoise Plexiglas material covering the stone and windows and extending to the top of the building. Other features will include a covered marquee and an outdoor planter with live plants.
Marion High School seniors Cheri Bell and Mary Schimpf received this year’s PTA scholarships. Cheri plans to attend Wichita State University to study for a career as a journalism teacher. Mary will attend Kansas State University with teaching in home economics as her goal.
The growing community of property owners at Marion County Lake got together Saturday evening in the first of planned monthly social and whatever-business-there-is meetings. About 45 people were there for the dinner and meeting. Everett Bowman was master of ceremonies.
Mrs. Alvin Kahns of Lincolnville missed $150 at this week’s Cash Days drawing. Mrs. Jack Garrison, Marion, received $30; John W. Ely, Marion, received $10; Mrs. Bert Shubert, Marion, received $5; and Mrs. Ralph Rigdon, Marion, missed $10.
If plans continue as they have started, Marion’s federated clubs will be actively helping establish a new roadside park at the west edge of Marion. Members of Marion Kiwanis Club did initial underbrush clearance on the park last summer. The park will be an ideal place for travelers with trailers to stop for the night.
Strassburg Baptist Church voted last week to build badly needed classrooms, restrooms, a nursery and a foyer in the near future.
Howard Link of Marion Motor Center will be honored Saturday at a banquet at the Muehlbach Hotel in Kansas City for an outstanding sales performance during 1965.
