The annual Marion County Spring Beef Show is scheduled for April 30 at the show grounds and athletic field on the east edge of the city.
Eighth grader Paula Fisher of Peabody was the winner of the Marion County spelling bee April 14 at the American Legion hall in Marion. Steve Fillipp, Marion Elementary seventh grader, took second place. Third went to Kathleen Enns, a fifth grader at Hillsboro.
Jack R. Swain will graduate this spring from Wichita State University with a master’s degree and will teach next fall at Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia. He will be an instructor in anthropology, archaeology, and sociology while continuing his education for a doctorate.
It appears that at least one more block, the 300 block of S. Freeborn St., will be scheduled to be curbed, guttered, and blacktopped soon in Marion.
Members of the board of education met Monday evening with Vickers and Everson to discuss plans for a proposed new stadium at Marion Athletic Field.
Governor Bill Avery and Congressman Garner Shriver will be featured speakers April 16 at a Fourth Congressional District meeting and luncheon of Republican Women in Marion.
Robert Musgrave, former superintendent of schools in Marion, will be assistant superintendent of schools at Coffeyville this fall.
