Marion’s youth center the Reservation will close and move out of the downtown headquarters. Attendance has been too poor to merit keeping the place open.

Financial difficulties also were encountered, with rent running considerably higher than income.

A reunion somewhat out of the ordinary occurred here Saturday when Pierce family members — six sisters and their brother, whose ages range from 77 to 88 — had dinner together.

Pictured on Page 1 are Minnie Miller of St. Francis and Mrs. D.D. McIntosh, Amanda Oyer, Chris Devore, Mary Scharenberg, and Milo Pierce, all of Marion. Another brother, L.C. Pierce of McPherson, could not be present.

Janice Jantz celebrated her fifth birthday Friday afternoon by inviting friends for a party. Guests included Vickie Boese, Gene Bowers, Janet Giles, Joyce Goentzel, Janet and Karen Hein, Steven Janzen, Bryce Ollenberger, Janet VanBuren, Pamela Weigart, and Janice’s brother, Michael Jantz.

The unbeaten Marion Babe Ruth team will go to Kingman, to take part in the state Babe Ruth tournament July 28 and 29.

Varsity debater Bob Kline, a freshman at Emporia State Teachers College, is pictured receiving congratulations from his debate coach on his recent initiation in the national honorary forensics fraternity. Kline’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Harry R. Kline, Marion.
