Broadcasts about these fire and ambulance calls were monitored this past week by the newspaper:

MARCH 10

6:44 a.m. — Trees on fire at Lakeside Country Club at Peabody were extinguished within 25 minutes by Peabody firefighters.

10:13 a.m. — A 65-year-old woman with progressive weakness at a home in the 400 block of S. Thorp St. in Marion was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital, Marion.

11:55 a.m. — A small, unauthorized brush fire near an outbuilding in the 300 block of N. Pine St. in Peabody was brought under control by the landowner and extinguished within 30 minutes by Peabody firefighters, who instructed the landowner not to reignite the fire.

1:54 p.m. — A 65-year-old woman with atrial fibrillation was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

4:43 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters spent an hour and a half checking for problems at several addresses after a gas line was struck at a construction site at Wilson and E Sts.

10:15 p.m. — A 52-year-old woman who fell an hour earlier at Salem Home and began having trouble breathing was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital by Hillsboro ambulance. Marion ambulance also responded but was called off before it arrived.

MARCH 11

12:48 a.m. — A 62-year-old woman bleeding at a home in the 200 block of W. 4th St. in Florence after recent surgery declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

11:01 p.m. — A report of an explosion and six-foot-high flames near Highland and Cedar Sts. in Marion was determined by Marion firefighters to be from a resident’s burn pit, which they extinguished within 20 minutes. Hillsboro and Peabody firefighters and Marion ambulance also were dispatched but were called off before they arrived.

11:05 p.m. — A 42-year-old woman who fell at a home in the 600 block of N. Cedar St. in Marion after recent surgery was taken to St. Luke by Hillsboro ambulance, filling in for Marion ambulance.

THURSDAY

10:09 p.m. — Drivers involved in a two-vehicle wreck near K-15 and 300th Rd. were checked by Tampa ambulance attendants, Durham first responders, and an ambulance supervisor but declined to be taken to a hospital. Durham firefighters also were dispatched to control traffic.

FRIDAY

5:09 a.m. — Lincolnville firefighters joined a Junction City wildfire task force until 9:36 p.m.

7:11 a.m. — A 62-year-old woman vomiting at a home in the 200 block of W. 4th St. in Florence after recent surgery declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

1:17 p.m. — Hillsboro firefighters conducted a controlled burn at the city’s golf course.

3:06 p.m. — A 64-year-old man reportedly hurting himself and others at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health, Newton, by Marion ambulance. Law enforcement officers also were dispatched.

5:21 p.m. — A grass fire that grew out of control northwest of Falcon and 140th Rds. was brought under control within 30 minutes by Goessel firefighters.

5:53 p.m. — A 58-year-old man with a rapid pulse at a home in the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence declined to be taken to a hospital by Marion ambulance.

8:08 p.m. — A report of a fire near 150th and Eagle Rds. was determined by Goessel firefighters to be a controlled burn near 170th Rd. and K-15.

SATURDAY

12:47 a.m. — An 11-year-old girl with diabetic issues was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

3:38 p.m. — A confused 62-year-old woman at a home in the 700 block of E. Main St. in Marion was taken to St. Luke by Marion ambulance.

4:43 p.m. — A 78-year-old woman with chest pains at Bethesda Home in Goessel was taken to NMC Health, Newton, by Hillsboro ambulance. An ambulance supervisor also responded.

5:54 p.m. — A 78-year-old man with sepsis at Salem Home in Hillsboro was taken to NMC Health by Marion ambulance, filling in for Hillsboro ambulance.

9:21 p.m. — A small fire near train tracks in the 200 block of S. Olive St. in Peabody was extinguished within 30 minutes by Peabody firefighters.

SUNDAY

12:10 a.m. — A deck fire at a mobile home in the 600 block of E. Marion Ave. in Goessel was extinguished within 15 minutes by Goessel firefighters. Hillsboro and Peabody firefighters and Hillsboro ambulance also were dispatched but were called off before they arrived.

8 p.m. — A backyard burn pit in the 700 block of W. Grand Ave. in Hillsboro was extinguished within 15 minutes by Hillsboro firefighters.

8:14 p.m. — A fire alarm at Tabor College townhouses was determined by Hillsboro firefighters to have been a false alarm.

MONDAY

8:19 a.m. — An alarm company informed Hillsboro firefighters that a dispatched alarm at Parkside Homes was a test.

9:45 a.m. — A 33-year-old woman in pain was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance from HCH to McPherson Center for Health.

12:28 p.m. — A 98-year-old man not feeling well at a home in the 500 block of Columbus St. in Tampa was taken to St. Luke by Tampa ambulance.

1:46 p.m. — Busy sheriff’s deputies asked Florence firefighters to help guide a semi-trailer truck out of the 100 block of E. 9th St. in Florence.

2:43 p.m. — An 86-year-old woman with a brain bleed was transferred by Marion ambulance from St. Luke to Wesley.

4:15 p.m. — An 85-year-old woman with chest pains at Salem Home was transferred by Hillsboro ambulance to HCH. Tampa ambulance was dispatched to stand by at Hillsboro in case of additional calls, but the call was canceled at 4:43 p.m., before the ambulance arrived.

11:50 p.m. — An 84-year-old woman with a locked jaw at Peabody Health and Rehab was taken to NMC Health by Hillsboro ambulance.
