Lincolnville updates fire radios

Lincolnville firefighters recently conducted a series of radio tests as part of routine updates designed to improve communication with neighboring counties, fire chief Lester Kaiser said Tuesday.
The work involved reprogramming and tuning radios and adding new talkgroups and zones. The updates included additional talkgroups for surrounding counties such as Chase, Morris, Dickinson, and McPherson.
The additions are intended to improve cooperation with other agencies during mutual aid responses, Kaiser said.
“We’re going to increase interoperability,” Kaiser said. “It’s going to help everybody all the way around.”
The work was part of a broader effort involving multiple departments that gathered to have radios tuned and programmed. Radio tuning and updates are performed periodically to ensure equipment remains properly configured.
As fire activity begins to pick up, Kaiser said, residents with scanners may start hearing more radio traffic as departments respond to calls across the area.
