No kings
To the editor:
In the April 1 issue of the Marion County Record, there was a cropped photo of six people at the March 28 No Kings rally in downtown Marion.
While it is true that the people shown were at the rally, there is no mention that there were approximately 30 more people holding signs on both sides of the street. I was there.
The heading, “No Kings, no crowd,” and the reference to “only a handful of protesters gathered Saturday” is inaccurate. At one point, there were 33 people counted. Later, the count was 39.
Since there was not a reporter present, and no questions were asked by anyone associated with the newspaper, posting a cropped photo and leading readers to believe there were no others is misleading.
All of the protesters were peaceful. The foot traffic of curious passersby asked questions and expressed interest in how they could participate or support the “No Kings” cause.
There were many people driving by who honked, waved, gave thumbs up, and smiled at us, expanding the overall experience even more.
In the words of William Allen White: “The facts fairly and honestly presented; truth will take care of itself.”

Editor’s note: A staff reporter was, in fact, present. He is the one who took the photo and several duplicative ones. The photo was presented full-frame, without any cropping that might have ignored protesters.
