ACTIVITY REPORTS
Law enforcement agencies provided these reports of their activities this past week. Routine activities such as patrols, inspections, training, report-writing, and assistance to other agencies generally are excluded. Dates may reflect starting or ending dates of officers’ shifts rather than actual dates of occurrence.
HILLSBORO
March 9 — A vehicle improperly parked in the 300 block of S. Washington St. was moved by the owner. Police met with a resident receiving bills supposedly from Kansas Turnpike Authority. A driver was warned for speeding at US-56 and Adams St.
March 10 — Police met with a resident about a harassment complaint. A driver was warned for having no brake lights on a trailer at Orchard Dr. and US-56. Police met with a resident about a civil matter.
March 11 — Police helped sheriff’s deputies with a traffic stop on US-50 that resulted in drug and other charges. Several residents complained A driver was ticketed for going 47 mph in a 30-mph zone in the 500 block of E. D St. about scam text messages pretending to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles. A reportedly suspicious person in the 500 block of E. D St. was not found.
Thursday — A dog was reported loose in the 200 block of S. Main St. A driver was warned about a defective headlight in the 400 block of S. Ash St. Police met with a resident about a civil matter and helped deputies with an accident on K-15 north of Durham.
Friday — An aggressive dog in the 300 block of N. Jefferson St. was picked up by its owner. Drivers were ticketed for reckless driving in the high school parking lot. A dead deer reported on US-56 at the McPherson County line was not found.
Saturday — Criminal damage to a car was reported in the 300 block of S. Adams St. A driver in the 600 block of S. Ash St. was warned for not using headlights when required.
Sunday — Routine activities.
MARION
March 9 — Police went to Marion County Courthouse after receiving a report of a person possibly showing up for a court hearing intoxicated. An unspecified complaint was investigated at Marion Middle School. A possible threat reported at Central Park was determined to have occurred in the county. Three drivers were warned for speeding or equipment violations on US-56 at Cedar St. and Timber Rd.
March 10 — Police helped with an out-of-control juvenile at Oasis special education school and stood by at K-150 and Bluestem Rd. during a chase that originated in Dickinson County.
March 11 — No offense report was released, but Michael F. Register, 25, Marion, was arrested on suspicion of making a criminal threat and aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer after police responded to a disturbance in the 300 block of N. 3rd St. A resident was ticketed for burning trash in his backyard in the 700 block of S. Cedar St. A dog loose near Animal Health Clinic was taken inside the clinic. A power line was reported down near Eastmoor United Methodist Church. A driver was warned for an equipment violation at US-56 and Timber Rd.
Thursday — Police helped Newton police investigate theft of a U-Haul truck. An owner attempted to secure two dogs that escaped after wind blew a gate open. Police later received another report of two dogs loose. They were picked up and taken to a veterinary clinic. A driver was warned for an equipment violation in the 100 block of S. Thorp St.
Friday — Marion and Newton police recovered a stolen U-Haul truck in the 400 block of Walnut St. A noise complaint near Grant St. was investigated. Police talked to a person about discharging fireworks in the city. Four drivers were warned for speeding or equipment violations on US-56 at Cedar St. and Timber Rd.
Saturday — Marion’s drug-sniffing police dog was deployed at a traffic stop on US-56 near Kanza Rd. Four drivers were warned about speeding or equipment violation at Main and 3rd Sts., at Lawrence and Locust Sts., and on US-56 at Cedar St. and Timber Rd.
Sunday — No problems were found in checking on a trespassing complaint in the 1500 block of E. Main St.
