Preserve the park

To the editor:

Rather than bore you with a bunch of repetition, I will say “ditto” to Eric Meyer’s comments on the prospect of a new “venue” building to be built in the park.

I will add that I see absolutely no need for another building to be erected in our Central Park.

I sold real estate for almost 20 years in Marion, and the No. 1 thing that folks looking to move to Marion commented on was our beautiful park. They loved the openness, the background of trees that were along the river and to the south of the park where the courts are now located.

We have folks from other communities who come to Marion to use our park because of its quaintness.

To put a building up, to take down what is there now instead of improving the basketball courts and sand volleyball court, would take away from the aesthetics of the park.

It would also take away from the other venues that already exist that provide income to some as well as tax revenue for the city.

As Eric commented, we have many other buildings that folks can use without putting yet another one up.

Unless Marion is the destination for hundreds of weddings or gatherings that want a venue, I see absolutely no need to have this building built, especially in our park.

I am not opposed to change or improvements, but in my opinion, this is not an improvement.

I hope those who agree with this will speak up. Let the council know how you feel.

Keep our park beautiful — void of any more buildings that add no beautification whatsoever. If anything, it takes away the natural beauty we have in the park.

We need to keep those things that make Marion appealing. Our park is one of those things.
