Hillsboro’s Lauryn Vogt won her fourth straight state championship in the 50-meter freestyle and added another state title in the 100-meter butterfly at the state swim meet Friday and Saturday.
She was among several members of the combined Marion swim team to medal at the meet.
“Our returning state qualifiers showed strong leadership and experience throughout the meet,” coach Mackenzie Magee said, “while our younger and first-time state swimmers gained valuable experience competing on the biggest stage of the season.
“I was especially proud of how the team handled pressure and continued cheering each other on after every race.”
Hillsboro’s Talia Jost earned an 8th-place medal in the 100-meter backstroke.
“Talia competed with a lot of determination throughout the weekend and continued to show the consistency and competitiveness that she has brought to our program over the years,” Magee said.
Marion’s Tandice Tajchman placed 16th in the 200-meter individual medley.
“Competing at the state level is always challenging, and I was proud of the effort and focus she showed throughout the meet,” Magee said.
Hillsboro’s 200-meter freestyle relay team was runner-up.
“Watching the growth of this team throughout the season was incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited about the future of our program,” Magee said.
